UNDERTOW

Undertow at Art Street, 2017

Undertow

Undertow was created in reaction to the 2016 presidential election; an undertow is a contradictory force that pulls things into its influence. A hurricane-like vortex form is mathematically created using a 3D fluid simulation with dynamic fields to exhibit continuous, ominous force. The piece models real-world phenomena to act as a metaphor for political turbulence, and also addresses the ongoing threat of climate change and its effects. In retrospect 2017 turned out to be one of the most deadly and destructive Atlantic hurricane seasons in recent memory. The subliminal flashes of imagery that interrupt the swirling cloud storm are intended to elicit anxiety; the imagery represents causes and effects of climate change from a macro to a micro scale.

Undertow was exhibited at Art Street Sacramento (2/17) and was in Collider8:VOXEL, at Emily Davis Gallery, The University of Akron(4/17)
