Skirr

Skirr is a multi-media work for chamber ensemble (composed by Stephen Blumberg) with computer generated animation (Rachel Clarke). Scored for flute/piccolo/alto flute, clarinet/bass clarinet, violin, viola, cello, and piano, Skirr was composed for the Empyrean Ensemble. An obscure word that means to fly or go rapidly, "skirr" is also defined as a whirring sound. This onomatopoeic word with its various meanings provided the inspiration and focus for this multi-media collaboration, the animation is choreographed to the music and is projected during the live performance. Contact Rachel Clarke to view a copy of the DVD.
