Homologue Series

The Homologue series, 1999 - 2000 (digital images and an interactive CD) is about perceptions of the body, how the body has been defined, classified and mapped over history, and how that relates to the way we perceive the body today. Amongst my ideas, I examine concepts of beauty and gender. I also explore how clothing and costume both relate to, and often re-define the body. I use a wide range of sources, including my own drawings, my photographs, found imagery and directly scanned objects. By creating a translucent collage of images and ideas, I invite the viewer to consider how notions relating to the body have been formed. The medium of digital collage echoes the content and meaning I want to achieve, where endless referencing explores the multiplicity of fragmented ideas and concepts which have made up our ideas of the body throughout history.
